Ireland - Crosscare Youth Exchange 2026
From 27 to 31 July 2026, young people from the Isle of Man Youth Service took part in a youth exchange programme with Crosscare Youth Service in Ireland. The exchange brought together young people and youth workers to develop skills, build friendships and learn from each other's experiences through a programme of outdoor adventure, cultural visits and youth work activities.
Based in Wicklow and Dublin, the programme combined outdoor learning, water sports, leadership activities and cultural experiences. Young people explored the Glendalough area, visited Dublin, worked alongside Irish peers and took part in activities designed to strengthen confidence, communication, teamwork and independence.
The exchange was developed through a partnership between the Isle of Man Youth Service and Crosscare Youth Service. Over six months, staff teams worked together to plan the programme, ensure safeguarding and risk management arrangements, and create meaningful opportunities for learning and personal development. The project demonstrated the value of partnership working across communities and jurisdictions.
Young people reported increased confidence, stronger friendships and a greater willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Many have remained in contact with friends they met during the exchange, showing the lasting impact of the programme. The experience also provided valuable professional development opportunities for youth workers from both organisations.
The success of the 2026 exchange has strengthened the relationship between the Isle of Man Youth Service and Crosscare Youth Service, creating a foundation for future collaboration and international youth work opportunities. Plans are already in place to continue the partnership through future exchange visits and shared projects.
